More about this project:
No experience:
when the fire department arrived at the scene, i honestly had no idea what to do... i had never captured anything like this and expected i would have minimal time to capture it.
a few minutes after arriving they started to break down the doors and entered the homes, then the fire departments chief asked me if i wanted to join them in the house, obviously i couldn't say no... we went into the smoke filled house and i did my best to capture the raw emotions from the firemen and woman.
It was definitely a project for the books and even though i had close to zero clue of what i was doing the video came out better than expected!
what I LEARNED:
FOR ME THIS WHOLE PROJECT WAS A LEARNING PROCESS, FROM THE QUICK THINKING AND CREATING SOMETHING THAT INSPIRES TO GETTING CREATIVE AND INTERESTING SHOTS WITH LIMITED AMOUNTS OF SPACE.
I KNEW I COULDN'T CAPTURE EVERYTHING, SO I HAD TO MAKE CHOICES, QUICKLY. WHEN THEY ARRIVED I STARTED ROLLING AND ONLY STOPPED RECORDING AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE HOUSE. THIS WAY I COULD RUN AND GUN WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT MISSING A SHOT OR NOT RECORDING.
I LEARNED THAT FILM BARS WORK BETTER THAN I THOUGHT AND COLOR GRADING "NIGHT" FOOTAGE IS VERY DIFFERENT TO "DAY" FOOTAGE. OVERALL THIS PROJECT LEARNED ME A LOT ABOUT CREATING, BUT EVEN MORE ABOUT MYSELF!
